Employment in the Southeast Asian travel and tourism industry is expected to rise by 34.5% by 2027 and to support over 42 million jobs. Although the region is experiencing economic development, there are still significant social problems, especially amongst youth, women and rural communities who have limited access to education and decent jobs. In these conditions, the fast-growing tourism sector can become a strong social and economic inclusion lever for these vulnerable populations, as long as they are provided with the necessary technical and transversal skills, along with sustainable employment opportunities. In an international context where available public and private funding is scarce, the various social enterprises for training in hospitality and catering incorporated under ASSET-H&C help to create these opportunities in a self-sustained way in several countries of Southeast Asia.
